Costa Palmas - Iron Gate

Tourism and Storm Water Infrastructure

built • 2024 • Baja California Sur, Mexico • Tourism, Re-wilding, On-site water management

This landscape transitions from the estuary edge to the upland thickets in one seamless and memorable experience.

Water is controlled by careful grading, runnels, and rip rap pools, which slow down flow to allow for sediment control and remediation.

A continuous mass of planting unifies the landscape experience :

Estuary - Palm Grove and Upland Thickets are bolstered by hardscape retention walls and boulders.

Coastal infrastructure projects utilizing nature-based solutions (NBS) seamlessly blend ecology with urban development, transforming underutilized areas into vibrant, flood-resilient spaces.

By integrating natural elements such as tidal wetlands, living shorelines, and rain gardens, these projects manage stormwater, prevent flooding, and protect coastlines from erosion.
