Pocket Park

This project stemmed from the idea of contributing to the urban landscape in small but thoughtful interventions. In an awkward corner created by two intersecting roads at a 30º angle, there is a space currently occupied by parked cars. At night, the setting changes as the traffic lessens, and it hosts a neighbor-owned hamburger stand.
The proof of concept for this project was developed by constructing sidewalk planters from demolition rubble outside of our office space, at Laguna, the former textile factory. Removing the hardened crust below the concrete, we draining stratum containing gravel, we could outgrow the existing planters and have a successful way of infiltrating water into the city’s underground wetland system.
